Here are a few energy efficient living tips that should help warm your home a little more during winter.
I’m sure that, like me, you’re feeling the cold in the mornings. It’s getting harder and harder to get out of bed as the morning sun is slower to rise and our temperatures are dropping.
So I thought I should share a simple tip to help you get warmer faster and also help you save money on heating bills.
In the winter months, you want to make sure you’re capturing the sun during the middle of the day. If you work away from your home, you’ll need to keep these tips in mind.
- Before you leave for work, open up all of the curtains and blinds on the northern side of your home and the western side. This will allow the sun to heat up your home during the warmest times of the day.
- When you get home, or around 6pm, close all those curtains and blinds. This will allow the warmer air to stay inside your home longer.
- Generally, you want to keep all your windows closed. If you want some fresh air through your home, the best time to open up is early in the afternoon. But close everything again before 4pm as the temperature starts to drop again.
If you do these 3 simple things, you’ll find your home will be warmer in the evenings, reducing or even eliminating the need to turn on a heater.
Keep in mind though, if you leave your curtains open as the evening cold sets in, the cold will come in through your glass windows.
I hope that tip has helped and your days and nights a just a little more comfortable.
